It Started With a Window

In 1993, the original family opened a walk-up window in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, a fishing village on the Pacific coast just up the shore from Puerto Vallarta. They craved a Tijuana style taco and grilled carne asada over charcoal, made salsas by hand every morning, and created one of the best tacos to whoever walked up. That window is now full restaurant. Locals have grown up on it. Visitors come back to Puerto Vallarta for just for it.

About The Name

In the early years in La Cruz, the window didn't have a sign. Locals just knew where to go. One regular — a tourist who kept coming back — got tired of telling her friends to find "the taco window on the street." So she painted a stone with a name and a logo and left it there. Tacos On The Street. It's been the name ever since.

Charcoal cooking is slower, hotter, and harder to get right than a flat-top or a gas grill — which is exactly why most places don't do it. We've been doing it since 1993 because nothing else gives carne asada that char, that smoke, that crust on the edges. When you pick up one of our tacos and it tastes like it's been kissed by fire, it's because it has been.
